About Us - How You Can Help
Because the MOC is run for the members, by the members, we ask that our repeat attendees consider helping
out. This will allow you to give back to the club that has helped improve your social life, given you something fun and new
to do on a boring weekend, and has much more planned for you in the months ahead.
Remember, there are no annual dues collected from our members. The club is run for the members, by other
members on a voluntary basis.
Low Involvement
Monetary Donators - Any amount from $1 on up helps the club continue to serve the members with no annual fee. Donations
cover office supplies, promotional material, web site domain names & hosting,
outdoor equipment, first aid kits, accounting & legal fees, postage, and much more.
Donate today - it's quick
and easy!
Equipment Donators - Have outdated, but usable, outdoor equipment that you'd like to unload?
Let our Equipment Rental Coordinator know! We can always use extra equipment to rent to
members who do not own the items they need to participate in various events.
Club Promoters - Help us get the word out there to people who need us! You can either print out our flyers
or post links on your web site.
You can print out our flyers online (click here for the MS PowerPoint 2000 version),
then cut the dotted lines to make the tear offs easier to rip. Post the flyers at your workplace, gym, apartment,
church, or wherever you think they'll get some attention among our demographics. Please make sure to get permission
from the appropriate person before posting. We ask that you do not change the content or the size of the logo or the flyers. If you need the flyers printed
out for you, please let our Advertising & Promotions Coordinator know.
To advertise MOC on your web site, you can post textual links or click here for
downloadable banner ads.
If you choose to let people know about the MOC via e-mail, please don't spam. E-mailing your
close friends that might be interested in the club is fine.
Social Greeters - If you know in advance that you are definitely coming to a monthly MOC Social Hour event
(the second Tuesday of each month in Columbia, MD),
and you feel that you know quite a few of our repeat members, volunteer to greet and introduce our new
members to others at Social Hour. Many members come alone to their first Social Hour and don't know anyone - but
they do so knowing they will have someone they can pinpoint right away and easily say "hi" to. Being
able to connect with someone right away is important to our new members and encourages Social Hour participation.
Each month there are rotating Social Greeters, however you can feel free to volunteer for this role as often as
you'd like. Express your interest to our Social Coordinator.
Monthly Explorer Contributors - Write for our monthly publication once or on a more ongoing
basis. We're always looking for member submissions, such as tips of the month, park information, and other
outdoorsy or Maryland-related columns. Even if you have a great story to tell about an outdoor experience,
an advice column for novice outdoors-people, or ideas for new sections: most
everything is fair game. Express your interest to our Monthly Explorer Editor.
Medium Involvement
Event Organizers - All events are run by members just like you!!! No special skills necessary. Half of the
time you are just coordinating an event with an outfitter or shopping for food. It's
a great talking point on your resume! Whether its a happy hour party you are good at, or know some really
great place to take an adventure, sport to try, or location to travel to, everything is fair game.
Event Organizers are also offered a discount on their event if there is an event fee collected at the
time of event registration by the club, we meet the minimum number of registrants on that event,
and the discount is overall possible at the discretion of the Treasurer/Event Coordinator. The discount
is in exchange for the Event Organizer's time spent planning and organizing the event. If an event is
organized by more than one person, the discount is split amongst the organizers. The MOC retains the right
to retract any discount offered for any reason with or without stated cause.
To organize an event, submit your event request via the Step 1 form in the
Organizer Area of the web site. In
the Organizer Area, you will also find event ideas, if you want to help, but aren't sure what to do.
High Involvement
Club Officers, Chairs, & Volunteer Positions - Get an official title, help out on a regular basis, and add something great to
your resume. All of these positions are volunteer-based and are what you make of them. Most positions
can be handled on your own schedule.
Contact us if you are interested in taking on an officer role. Officer positions
are ultimately given to the candidate with the best fit, and are appointed by the current officers
of the club.
Legal Representative - Must be a member of the Maryland Bar. Will help us with
legal documentation, etc.
Advertising/Marketing Officer - Will help market the club to potential members and sponsors.
Contact us if you are interested in lending in a helping hand in any way.
