Difficulty Ratings
Our event difficulty rating is based on length in time of the work out (distance of a trail),
the intensity of the work out (elevation change), the terrain, and how much experience
one should expect to need to complete the event.

Easy
| This indicates events that anyone (without hanicap) can do. It requires little to no experience.
In hiking terms, this is usually a day hike (or a backpacking trip involving daily hikes) with less than 5 miles, with minimal elevation change, and a flat terrain. Hiking boots with synthetic socks recommended.

Easy to Moderate
| This indicates events that are still relatively easy, but for short periods of times are more advanced. Still requires little to no experience, but the need to be in some amount of physical shape.
In hiking terms, this is usually a day hike (or a backpacking trip involving daily hikes) with less than 7.5 miles, with more noticeable elevation change, and a flat or slightly rocky (at times) terrain. Hiking boots with synthetic socks recommended.

Moderate
| This indicates events that are more advanced. Requires some experience, and the need to be in physical shape.
In hiking terms, this is usually a day hike (or a backpacking trip involving daily hikes) with less than 10 miles, with a constant elevation change, and slightly rocky terrain. Hiking boots with synthetic socks highly recommended.

Moderate to Difficult
| This indicates events that are even more advanced. Requires experience, and the need to be in good physical shape.
In hiking terms, this is usually a day hike (or a backpacking trip involving daily hikes) with less than 12.5 miles, with a constant, sometimes more steep, elevation change, and rocky terrain. Hiking boots with synthetic socks, and liners, are required.

Difficult
| This indicates events that are very advanced. Requires experience, and the need to be in great physical shape.
In hiking terms, this is usually a day hike (or a backpacking trip involving daily hikes) with less than 15 miles, with a steep elevation change, and very rocky terrain. Hiking boots with synthetic socks, and liners, are required.

Experts Only
| This rating is for events that require certification or a certain level of experience (i.e., vertical rock climbing, spelunking without an outfitter, SCUBA diving).
